At High Altitude Spine & Sport, we use a number of treatment techniques to help you return to an active, healthy lifestyle. With any injury or condition, our goal is always to help decrease your pain and improve your function in an effective and efficient manner. Below is a short list of a few of the services we provide.

A Thorough Biomechanical Evaluation
During each initial exam, each patient will be evaluated to determine the root cause of the injury. From a biomechanical standpoint, we analyze the way your body is moving and assessing the structural adaptations to that movement to determine if any kinematic deficiencies are occurring. We will also assess muscle firing patterns for any inefficiencies or faulty firing patterns and how those muscle group are affecting your structure when they do activate. The goal of our exam is to find the overall precipitating cause that lead to the biomechanical breakdown causing injury. By doing so, we can establish a plan to not only help your injury heal, but improve your body’s overall function. Education is important to us, so throughout the process we will do our best to explain what we are seeing and why the initial breakdown in structure occurred. It is our duty to give our patients as much information about their body’s overall function and to answer any questions they might have in a direct and easy to understand manner. But most importantly, we are here to listen and spend the time working to establish the best way to get your body healthy.

Active Release Technique (A.R.T.)
Active Release Technique has become the “gold standard” in sports injury and soft tissue injury management. It is a highly specialized technique designed to break-up scar tissue, ease muscle spasms, relieve trigger points, and restore normal biomechanics. It has become the treatment of choice for many world class athletes due to its effectiveness in reducing recovery time and increasing the rate of healing. Depending on the type and severity of the injury, A.R.T. has been known to heal injuries up to 50% faster than traditional therapies. This is why we choose to use A.R.T. as the primary form of treatment in our clinic while utilizing the other techniques to support the healing effects created during each treatment.

Chiropractic Manipulations
Chiropractic Manipulations (adjustments) are the primary form of treatment in any chiropractic office. They help to restore the normal joint integrity by alleviating pressure that gets stored when the body’s structure adapts to a maladaptive pattern. Typically, a chiropractic adjustment will be given at the end of the treatment to any joints that are effecting the patient’s chief complaint. When combined with A.R.T., a chiropractic adjustment tends to be much more effective in maintaining its normal integrity.

Kinesiotaping
Often times, kinesiotape will be applied to the injured area to help provide additional stability to the surrounding tissues. Kinesiotape is a specialized form of athletic taping application designed to reduce pain and inflammation by slightly lifting up the superficial layer of skin to allow for increased circulation and space for the structures underneath to function. Additionally, depending on the application, kinesiotape can help to inhibit a tight muscle or facilitate a weak muscle providing added proprioceptive input increasing the healing of the injured area.

Stretching and Strength Exercises
As your healing progresses, we will gradually incorporate a variety of stretching and strength exercises to correct any muscle imbalances that have been identified through the course of care. With any of the exercises given, the goal is to improve stability and tissue balance helping improve your body’s overall functioning. This is essential in helping to break the repetitive injury cycle and establish a more efficient pattern of performance. It is in this stage, that patient consistency in performing the assigned exercise is key to ensuring future injury risk is held at a minimal.
